Moonfall

The very first task we had on the show was to design this wide shot, the ultra close Moon reveals itself, dragging a portion of Earth atmos, quite the challenge!

Moonfall

Hi everyone,
Here are a couple frames and tests I worked on along the guys @ Framestore on a show we recently had the pleasure to work on:
"Moonfall" (copyrights @Lionsgate), we started back in August 2020(yes, yes...!) directed and produced by Roland Emmerich.

Thanks to the client side and Framestore's marketing dept for allowing us to showcase some -usually very hard to get- under the scenes images and Wips!
Feel free to take a look @Framestore Visdev Dept Artstation page for more:

Robert Winter was our internal Vfx Sup on the show, it was a great zero gravity ride!
For this project we worked mainly on the Aliens "flock", from very early briefs (from its representation to its behavior/movement) to some wide shots establishers (like when the Moon come super close to Earth!) to the Shuttle escaping a decomposing moon, to the hidden entrance to the Alien's nest...

As the level of details was extremely high from the Director's preferences, we had to do some R&D on that show regarding a Fractal approach to depict that amount of details, special thanks to the guys at https://www.machina-infinitum.com/ to have kindly shared some knowledge and formulas (related to some very specific fractals) to help us nailing down some of the looks for the Alien designs/structures.
More info here about the show in an interview from our internal Vfx sup:
